Looking North: China and the Arctic

​

In recent years, China’s interest in the Arctic has gathered much attention, especially since the country obtained Arctic Council observer status in 2013 and issued its Arctic Policy (White Paper) in 2018. With growing geopolitical sensitivities, China's presence in the Arctic has raised concerns, particularly regarding the potential for increased geopolitical competition, environmental impact of increased shipping and resource extraction.

Lately, the Arctic has become an even more discussed subject, largely due to President Trump’s insistence of making Greenland part of the US, for stated national security reasons and due to China’s presence in the Arctic. China, however, has emphasized its commitment to peaceful cooperation and sustainable development in the region.

​

The Norwegian Chinese Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Fridtjof Nansen Institute and Nord University invite you to this event that will shed light on the recent developments in the Arctic, present research findings on aspects of business and politics in the Arctic and provide insights valuable to industry and practitioners alike.
